You should be able to do these things during this project:
1. Change colors using the "color chips", to be applied with the "gradient tools as well as the gradient editor".
2. Apply a color to a background using the "fill".
3. Create "shapes and text"-changing color, size, opacity and order from the "layer box".
4. Use "move tool" with the "auto-select" option to arrange objects (shapes/text) on the canvas.
5. "Delete" shapes/text/layers.
6. Change "opacity" of shapes and text on the canvas.
7. Change the "font, color and size" of the text..
8. Apply "layer styles" to text.
9. Create a border.
10. Choose a theme and create a connection with TEXT, SHAPES, AND COLOR.
* Use Step 1, "Description" of "The Four Steps of Art Criticism" to describe a work of art. Which is at the bottom of this page....

Art Appreciation
Step #1
"Description"
Example writing for Step 1 "Description"
Just as it says, first you describe the facts, including the name of the work, artist, medium, etc. Next, what does the art look like, what is it made of, what objects do you see in it? What textures, shapes, or colors are there? Are the colors vivid and bright, or subdued? Remember, all of these are straight facts, with no opinions added yet. Be very general at first, then get more specific later on.
In this painting, I see butterflies (obvious, but necessary). There are two of them, and they are in flight with their wings open. I also see what appears to be the side of a cliff, or a flat wall that has been broken off. It is daytime because the sky is blue, but there is also another drastic light-source coming from the right side, creating harsh shadows. The landscape appears to be outdoors, because of the sky and because of the vast desert in the distance. The colors are very intense, especially the blue and the orange. There is a strong contrast between light and dark, and overall, the lines are very defined. The viewer is either very close in proximity to the butterflies, or the butterflies are rather large. As the viewer, we appear to be standing in front of this scene, looking straight at it, and the overall effect is realism. Etc. *Note: Through all this, you are not supposed to say whether or not you “like” any of the things…you’re just describing at this point. |

Good questions to ask yourself!!
- What kind of lines do you see? Are they straight, curvy, diagonal, etc.?
- What kind of shapes do you see? Are they geometric, organic, etc.?
- What kind of textures do you see? Are they rough, smooth, grainy, fuzzy, etc.?
- What colors do you see? Are they bright, dull, fluoresent, co color, etc.?
- What kind of values do you see? Are they high contrast, low contrast, good dynamic range, etc.?
- What kind of objects do you see? Are the people architectural, natural, etc.?
