Verb Design

PERFORM
Standard 1: Apply skills and knowledge to perform in the arts.
(VPAA: C1, C2, C3, C4, C5, P1, P2, P4, R1, R4)
1 Apply acquired knowledge and skills to the creative problem solving process.
(21st Century Skills: I.4, II.2)
*Skills will be learned through guided practice, critiques and individual assessment. All students will apply learned processes by means of culminating projects that require the use and implementation of those tools and processes in order to create a finished design.
2 Intentionally use art materials and tools when applying techniques and skills to communicate ideas.
(21st Century Skills: I.6, III.3, III.6)
All students will be given certain specifications to work within, in order to complete a finished product that will evaluate student comprehension.
The Verb Deisgn: Students will implement proficiency in using the move, zoom, text, paint bucket and gradient tools as well as adjusting opacities, fonts/sizes, colors (color picker), managing the layer box and adding layer styles. Students will be evaluated on creating a connection/theme between the colors, size shape and movement of shapes and text.
3 Demonstrate understanding of organizational principles and methods to solve specific visual arts problems.

The Verb Deisgn: All students will demonstrate a basic understanding of design by creating a composition that incorporates the color, size and placement of both
text and shapes in order to create a connection to a central theme. The text, shapes, color and placement should all be working together to
point to a central theme.
4 Exhibit, present, and publish quality works of art.

All students will create a boarder on each design, print out design and mount onto a substrate to be handed-in as a finished work of art to be displayed on the walls of the school as well as community art festivals.
5 Responsibly and safely manage materials and tools.

All students will responsibly use computers/printers/technology as well as furniture in the classroom to "leave it as you found it". Students will learn to use materials in a professional manner, this refers to computers and printers. As well as responsibly manage glueing stations and returning any utencils used before, during or after projects. As well as conduct while on-line and creating artwork that is acceptable to the expectations of the shcool handbook and community.

1 Identify, define problems, and reflect upon possible visual solutions.

All students will engage in teacher lead critiques of both professional and past student art work before each project in order to direct
students in utilizing specific compositional strategies (EPOD).
The verb design: It is of most importance that all students understand how to make a connection between shapes and text using colors, fonts and placement without making a picture. Students are exposed to EPOD's such as color, shape, contrast, emphasis and unity.
2 Create artwork using materials and techniques with skill so that personal intentions are carried out.

All students will be taught skills and processes prior to any final projects, students will be prompted during this time as to what skills
they should be understanding and comprehending in order to control the outcome of their design.

All students will be exposed to many different examples of design as well given an understanding as to how it was created, these methods of
organizing elements in a design will be practiced before any final project is attempted.

5 Reflect, articulate, and edit the development of artwork throughout the creative process.

All students will be required to create at least three separate designs during every final project. During this time students will engage in "work in progress" critiques as well as individual assessment critiques from instructor.
6 Use emergent technologies and materials to create artistic products that demonstrate knowledge of context, values, and aesthetics.

Each student will be taught in a manner with software programs that best utilize prior knowledge and cognitive relevance in order to create a
product that incorporates The Elements and Principles of Design into final projects that demonstrate an understanding of not only the technology but of
artistic intentions.
7 Create collaboratively to resolve visual problems.

All students have the opportunity to discuss visual problems with each other during projects by means of "work in progress" critiques that
allow all students to see what their peers are doing while gaining an understanding of what is working and what isn't in each design.

the trimester..
1 Analyze and describe the formal characteristics of a work of art or design.

2 Describe how organizational principles are used to elicit emotional responses.

Using a past student artwork example, each student will submit either a post or formal essay type writing that utilizes "describing" of a work of art. Writting examples will be read, discussed and analyzed in class before student work is turned in for evaluation.
3 Critically observe a work of art to evaluate and respond to the artist’s intent using art vocabulary and terminology.

class discussions that illustrate who we are designing for and for what process and products.
